I am a visual artist, illustrator and writer from Aberdeenshire, Scotland, based in Newcastle upon Tyne. My work has an illustrative quality with a responsiveness to drawing, painting and print, often incorporating written word alongside or as part of the work itself.  My practice has developed alongside a fascination for folk tradition, particularly with traditional song and dance, celebrating the working man and woman, as well as commemorating craftsmanship, hardship, unswerving determination and devotion. I am interested in historical rural and industrial work life, the profound relationship that humans have with the natural world and the way in which that connection influences traditional music, song and dance. I endeavour to value and breathe verve into poetic and powerful storytelling that arises within traditional customs.

Lothian Life Short Story Competition winner for A Trip of Dotterel
“The English and Scots languages are abundant in strong, supple words and the author of A Trip of Dotterel clearly worked hard to find exactly the right ones to bring her story to life. The rich, rhythmic details and beguiling imagery pull you in and hold you there. I feel as if I am soaring upwards with “Dotterel” as she embraces nature and heads homewards.” Marrianne Wheelaghan
